The SDGs should be implemented worldwide by 2030: the 17 “Sustainable Development Goals” or “Agenda 2030” were adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015. Every individual is encouraged to contribute to the realization of the World Goals so that future generations can grow up in a peaceful world free from poverty, hunger, and environmental degradation.
As a founding member of the civil society platform “SDG Watch Austria”, Jugend Eine Welt is committed to ensuring that the SDGs are also actively implemented in Austria. Goal 4 “Quality education” is particularly important to us, as it stands for inclusive, fair, and high-quality education, and the opportunity for lifelong learning for everyone.
THE WORLD HAS NEW GOALS – AND NO ONE REALIZES THIS?
If every curriculum in the world contains the SDGs, if every school teaches them and every young person on the planet is aware of them (...) then the world has a good chance of achieving the SDGs by 2030.
Jugend Eine Welt calls for an education and communication campaign so that the World Goals are better known and get implemented in Austria. They should become part of the Austrian curriculum as soon as possible and be included in teacher training and relevant school materials. It would also be helpful to appoint a high-ranking SDG commissioner from the federal government who regularly represents the topic of the new World Goals in public, media, and political discourse.
WORLDWIDE MISSION
The SDGs also play a major role in the aid projects funded by Jugend Eine Welt, especially the goals 1 (No poverty), 4 (Quality education), and 8 (Decent work, e.g. no abusive child labor). In reality, all goals are closely connected: a child who can go to school instead of slaving away for hours in the fields has a much better chance of getting a good job and earning a living later on.
Let's work together to implement the World Goals and achieve a good life for everyone!
